Please be sure to make an appointment with a counselor to design your plan.
The Gavilan College Anthropology Program encompasses three subfields: cultural anthropology, physical anthropology, and archaeology. Anthropology courses teach students to develop a comprehensive understanding of humans in their diversity and complexity. Courses may be taken to satisfy the general education requirements or to meet the requirements for an Associate in Arts for Transfer in Anthropology. |

Anthropology can open your mind. Novelist Amitav Ghosh and cellist Yo-yo Ma learned to see global cultural diversity through anthropology. Fantasy and science fiction writers - Samuel R. Delaney, Ursula K. Leguin, Kurt Vonnegut, and China Miéille - have enlarged their imaginations through anthropology. Anthropologists change the way we view and interact with our world.

Activists in the fields of human rights, environmental protection, feminism, and social justice train in cultural anthropology. Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! studied anthropology. Activist musicians Tracy Chapman and Johnny Clegg were inspired by anthropology. Mary Allegretti, environmental advocate and Brazil's former Secretary for Amazonia, is an anthropologist.
Students of anthropology pursue careers as lawyers, physicians, journalists, civil servants, medical researchers, teachers, and more. |
